1. Acceptance of terms

By creating an account or using Warlock Assistant on any platform (Android, iOS, desktop, or web), you agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions and by the Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the app.

Creating an account asks you to accept them explicitly, and we record which version of each document you accepted and when. You can read both before signing up — they are linked from the sign-up form and from App settings, which needs no account — and your copy of that record is part of the data export in section 8.

2. Description of the service

Warlock Assistant is a free, unofficial companion app for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. It lets you search and browse card data, rulings and prices, build and manage decks, keep collections and favourites, scan a card with your camera to find it in the catalogue, keep private notes on cards and decks, track matches on your own device or online with others, add friends, share decks and collections, and — on desktop — import decks from MTG Arena. The service is provided on a best-effort basis with no availability or uptime guarantees.

Warlock Assistant is pre-release software, offered as an open beta. It is unfinished and changes daily: features appear, change and disappear, bugs are expected rather than exceptional, and while we are still building it we may have to reset or migrate stored data, so content you enter can be lost. Keep your own copy of anything you would not want to lose — Account settings offers an "Export my data" action that gives you one at any time.

3. What is free, and always will be

Warlock Assistant is unofficial Fan Content. The app is free to download, install and use on every platform, and none of the following will ever be placed behind a payment, a subscription, an advertisement you have to watch, a survey, or a mandatory sign-up:

(a) downloading and installing the app, and the core of what it does: building and keeping decks, keeping a collection, and tracking a match;
(b) Magic: The Gathering card data, card images, rulings, prices and decklists, including preconstructed decklists;
(c) searching and browsing that data;
(d) the content you create — your decks, collections, favourites, notes and match records — and your ability to export it.

You never need an account, and never need to pay, to reach any of it.

This is not merely our preference. The Wizards of the Coast Fan Content Policy requires fan content to remain freely accessible to the community, and the terms of our data sources prohibit paywalling their data. This commitment is permanent and unconditional, and no later version of these terms will weaken it.

4. How we fund the service

Running the service costs money — hosting, domain, Firebase, email delivery, developer accounts. We may fund it in the ways the Fan Content Policy expressly permits. None of them may ever gate anything listed in section 3.

(a) Advertising. We may display adverts supplied by third-party advertising networks. An advert will never stand between you and card data, your own content, or a match in progress. What data advertising involves, the legal basis for it, and how to withdraw your consent are set out in the Privacy Policy; where consent is required we will ask for it before the first advert is shown.

(b) Affiliate links. Some links to third-party retailers may earn us a commission if you buy something, at no extra cost to you. They are marked where they appear, and they do not influence the prices we display, the results of a search, or anything we recommend. Prices shown in the app are indicative market estimates supplied by MTGJSON: they are not the retailer's price and may differ from it. We are not a party to your purchase — the retailer's own terms, prices and privacy policy apply.

(c) Donations and sponsorship. We may accept voluntary donations and sponsorship. A donation buys nothing: it never unlocks card data, features or content, and anything we offer in thanks is cosmetic.

(d) Optional paid features, as described in section 5.

None of this is active today: the app currently shows no advertising, carries no affiliate link, and sells nothing. We will announce advertising and paid features in the app before they go live.

5. Optional paid features

We may in future offer optional paid features or subscriptions. We offer none today. If we do, all of the following applies.

What can be paid for. Only functionality we build and operate ourselves — for example tools that run on our servers, or purely cosmetic options — and the removal of advertising. Nothing listed in section 3 will ever form part of a paid feature, and buying nothing must always leave you with a fully usable app.

How you would pay. Through the app store you installed the app from, or through our payment provider on the web and desktop. That provider handles the payment; we never receive or store your card details. Prices are shown before you buy and include applicable taxes.

Subscriptions. A subscription renews automatically until you cancel it. You can cancel at any time — through the store you bought it from, or from Account settings if you bought it from us. Cancelling stops future renewals, and your access continues until the end of the period you have already paid for.

Changing your mind. If you are a consumer in the EU or the UK you have 14 days to withdraw from a purchase. For digital content delivered immediately, that right ends once delivery has begun, provided you asked for immediate delivery and acknowledged the loss — we will ask you to do both at the point of purchase. If you withdraw from a subscription within 14 days, you pay only for the part already supplied. Where you bought through an app store, that store's refund process applies and we will support your request.

If we stop offering a paid feature. We will give reasonable notice and refund the unused portion of anything you have already paid for.

Paid features are tied to your account. They cannot be transferred, shared or resold.

6. Accounts

Some features require an account. You can create one with an email address, a password and a nickname (alphanumeric, 1–30 chars), or by signing in with Google or Apple. You may optionally add your MTG Arena nickname. You are responsible for keeping your password confidential and for activity under your account. Provide a valid email address so we can deliver verification and password-reset messages; unverified accounts are deleted 7 days after sign-up, with a warning email at day 5.

You must be at least 16 years old, unless the country you live in sets a lower age at which you can agree to an online service yourself and you have reached it — in Italy, whose law governs these terms, that age is 14. Below it, a parent or guardian must agree on your behalf. We do not verify age at sign-up; if we learn an account belongs to someone under that age we will delete it. Parents or guardians can write to [email protected]. Please note that your account is discoverable by its nickname and can receive friend requests from any other user.

7. Permitted use

The app is provided for your personal, non-commercial use. You agree not to: (a) reverse engineer, decompile, or tamper with the client or the server beyond what mandatory law allows; (b) access the service through automated tools in a way that disrupts it or circumvents rate limits; (c) upload content that is unlawful, abusive, or infringes someone else's rights; (d) attempt to gain access to accounts or data that are not yours; (e) choose a nickname, seat name, deck name or collection name that impersonates another person, Wizards of the Coast, or us, or that is obscene, harassing or unlawful — these names are shown to other users and are delivered inside push notifications and emails; (f) use friend requests, share notifications or match invitations to harass, spam, or contact someone who does not want to hear from you; (g) use the service to produce or distribute counterfeit, proxy, or print-ready Magic cards.

Reports of abusive content and intellectual-property complaints can be sent to [email protected]; we will review them and may remove content, disable share links, or suspend accounts. We read every report and reply as soon as we reasonably can — the app is run by a very small team, so please allow a few days.

8. Your content

Data you enter (decks, collection entries, MTGA-imported lists, notes, preferences) remains yours. You grant us a limited, non-exclusive licence to store, process, and display it for the purpose of operating the app on your behalf.

We may also use it to produce aggregate, anonymous statistics about how the app and the game are used — for example how often a card appears in decks, or how long matches tend to run — and we may publish or offer access to those statistics. They describe the service as a whole and never you: they contain no personal data and cannot be traced back to you, to your account, or to any individual deck or collection.

You can delete all your account data, or download a complete copy of it, at any time from your profile. Account settings offers an "Export my data" action that produces a machine-readable JSON file. If you cannot use the in-app export, email [email protected] from your account's address and we will send it within 30 days.

9. Sharing your content

You decide what to share. Sharing a deck or collection by link creates a link that grants access to anyone who holds it, whether or not they have an account, and regardless of the privacy setting on that item — the link itself is the permission. You can review and revoke the links and friend grants you have created at any time from Account settings → Shared links; a link stays valid until you revoke it or delete the shared item or your account. Content shared directly with a friend can be revoked the same way.

When a link is posted somewhere that generates previews, the name of the shared item, its format, its card count and a card image may be displayed and cached by that platform, and revoking the link cannot erase copies a platform has already cached. Do not put anything in a deck or collection name that you would not want to be public. You are responsible for the content you share.

10. Online matches

When you join or host an online match, the other players at that table can see the seat name you type, your profile picture, and the names of the decks you attach. We store the table while it is live and keep a record of each finished game; you cannot view or delete those records from the app, but deleting your account anonymises your part of them (see section 15 of the Privacy Policy). The host can close the table at any time and inactive tables are cleaned up automatically. Seat names and deck names are subject to section 7.

11. MTG Arena integration (desktop only)

The desktop app can read MTG Arena's Player.log file on your computer to detect the decks in your Arena library. The integration is strictly passive and read-only: it relies solely on the "Detailed Logs (Plugin Support)" option that Wizards of the Coast provides inside MTG Arena, and it never reads game memory, injects code, hooks, automates, or modifies the MTG Arena client in any way. It gives no gameplay advantage.

This reading is off by default: it runs only when you switch it on yourself in App settings, and only while we also have the feature enabled remotely; turning it off again stops it immediately. The raw log never leaves your computer; only deck contents are uploaded, and only after you have confirmed your Arena account name.

This feature is unofficial and is not endorsed by or affiliated with Wizards of the Coast. You remain responsible for complying with the MTG Arena End User Licence Agreement, and future Arena updates may break log compatibility at any time.

12. Changes to the service

Warlock Assistant is under active development. We may add, change, restrict, or remove features at any time, and some features are switched on or off remotely by us, so a feature available today may be unavailable on your next launch without advance notice. We will give reasonable notice before removing a feature that holds your content, or before discontinuing the service; if we discontinue a paid feature, section 5 applies. While the app is in open beta (section 2) we may also have to reset or migrate stored data with little or no notice; we avoid it where we can, and we will say so in the app when it happens. We will never remove or gate access to Magic card data, which stays free (see section 3).

13. Magic: The Gathering — trademark and copyright

Warlock Assistant is unofficial Fan Content permitted under the Fan Content Policy. Not approved/endorsed by Wizards. Portions of the materials used are property of Wizards of the Coast. ©Wizards of the Coast LLC.

Magic: The Gathering, all card names, card text, mana symbols, and card artwork are trademarks and copyright of Wizards of the Coast LLC. We are not produced, endorsed, supported by, or affiliated with Wizards of the Coast.

Card data, prices and preconstructed decklists are provided by MTGJSON; card images, rulings and set data are provided by Scryfall. You may use card data and images inside the app for your personal, non-commercial play. You may not scrape, bulk-download, re-host, redistribute, or resell card data, price data or card images obtained through the app or its API, and you may not use the app to create counterfeit, proxy, or print-ready cards. These restrictions come from our data sources and from the Fan Content Policy, and we are required to pass them on to you. All third-party trademarks belong to their respective owners.

14. Our intellectual property and licence

The Warlock Assistant client code, server code, name, and logo are © the Warlock Assistant team. The app is proprietary and closed-source, and is licensed to you, not sold, for your personal, non-commercial use under our End User License Agreement (the "License"). You may download, install, and run the app free of charge; any optional paid feature is governed by section 5. You may not modify, reverse engineer, or redistribute the app. The right to distribute it is reserved to us and to the channels we designate from time to time — presently the official Warlock Assistant website, the application stores on which we publish the app, and, for the Linux desktop build, Flathub. The full License is available in the app and at warlockassistant.com/license.

15. Disclaimers

The service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, merchantability, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that card data, rulings or prices are accurate or up to date — always verify anything that matters for play against the official rules, and treat prices as indicative only. Nothing in this section limits the statutory conformity rights of a consumer who has paid us for a feature.

16. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, the Warlock Assistant team will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, arising out of or relating to your use of the service. Our total aggregate liability for any direct damages will not exceed fifty euros (€50) or, if you have paid us for an optional feature, the greater of fifty euros (€50) and the total amount you paid us in the twelve months before the event giving rise to the claim. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded under applicable law, including consumer-protection law.

17. Termination

Termination by you. You can delete your account at any time from your profile. Deletion is immediate and permanent, with no grace period and no way to recover the account. It removes your account, decks, collections, favourites, friendships, share grants, device registrations, notifications and the messages we queued or sent to you, and anonymises your part of any finished-match records so none stays keyed to you; section 15 of the Privacy Policy sets out the detail. Deleting your account also stops your share links from working and erases your on-device app data — decks, collections, favourites, match history and the like (see section 15 of the Privacy Policy) — from the device you delete it on; to clear other devices, use the in-app "Delete local data" action (App settings) or your operating system's clear-app-data function. Deleting your account ends any subscription you bought from us and forfeits the remainder of the period; a subscription bought through an app store must also be cancelled there.

Termination by us. We may suspend or close an account that breaches these terms or the law. Except where the breach is serious or we must act immediately, we will tell you why by email and you may reply to [email protected] to contest it. If we close an account that has paid for a feature, other than for a serious breach, we will refund the unused portion. We may also discontinue the service entirely; if we do, we will give at least 30 days' notice where possible so you can retrieve your content.

18. Changes to the terms

We may update these terms as the app evolves. Each version carries a version number and an effective date, and superseded versions are kept on file. Material changes will be announced in the app. Continued use after the update means you accept the revised terms; if you do not agree, you can delete your account. A change that affects a subscription you have already bought will not apply to it before its current period ends.

19. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Italy. Any dispute will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the competent Italian courts, without prejudice to the mandatory consumer protection rights that may apply in your country of residence.

20. Entire agreement

These terms, together with the End User License Agreement and the Privacy Policy, form the entire agreement between you and us about the service. Where these terms and the License conflict, the License governs the software itself and these terms govern the online service. If any provision is held unenforceable, the rest remains in force. You may not transfer your account or your rights under these terms; we may transfer ours if the project changes hands, on notice to you.

21. Contact

Questions about these terms can be sent to [email protected].
